Veil tail... we common find this tail type of betta in pet shop,aquarium shop and common shop that sells fish.. Often sell between RM 1 to RM 3.. Back in 1998, i used to buy veil tail to fight with my friends (tsk tsk tsk) cruel old days...What is Veiltail ? According to wikipedia Veiltail is : extended finnage length and non-symmetrical tail; caudal fin rays usually only split once..

Swim Bladder Disease

Swim Bladder Disorder Information and Symptoms

Swim Bladder Disorder is an extremely common betta ailment, and it typically looks worse than it actually is. I know, you're probably sitting there watching your poor betta flop around, struggling valiantly to make it to the top for air, and basically looking nothing like his usual graceful self, and thinking to yourself, "This is it, I'm going to lose him." Let me make you feel a little better before I get into all the details - Swim bladder problems are not contagious, they don't seem to be painful, they are generally easy to treat, and they are usually not even close to fatal. Feel better? Good, let's get on to the fun stuff.

Symptoms can include:

Either floats uncontrollably to the top of the tank, or sinks to the bottom.
Seems to struggle greatly while swimming, and often will swim at an unusual angle.
May or may not have a "kinked" spine, often in the shape of an "S" when viewed from above.
May lie around, barely moving except when a mad dash is made to the surface for air.
May or may not have a swollen belly, often caused by constipation

Swim Bladder Disorder Treatment

Swim Bladder Disorder can be caused by several things, and it's best to try to figure out the cause of the problem because the cause will determine what treatment you will want to use. As always, I recommend isolating the ill betta for treatment if you have him/her in a community tank. While Swim Bladder Disorder isn't contagious, isolating the betta will make monitoring and treating the condition much easier on you (and will give the sick betta much needed "quiet time" to recover). If your betta is having a hard time getting to the surface for air, it is often a good idea to lower the water level to make things easier on him. Just remember if you do this that you have much less water volume than before and water changes must be increased to keep him in good health. Below is a list of things that can cause Swim Bladder Disorder, in order from most common to rarest.

Constipation - Constipation is the number one cause of Swim Bladder Disorder in otherwise healthy bettas. If your betta is showing symptoms of Swim Bladder Disorder, I always suggest treating the betta as if he has constipation first, because they usually do (click on the underlined "constipation" for treatment information).

Overfeeding - If your betta is displaying symptoms of Swim Bladder Disorder immediately after feedings, and the symptoms tend to go away after a few hours, you are probably overfeeding. It is helpful to remember that bettas only have stomachs approximately the size of one eye, so try to feed smaller meals several times a day instead of one giant meal once a day. That is the treatment for Swim Bladder Disorder caused by overfeeding in a nutshell, not too hard, eh?

Injury - Sometimes bettas who have recently been through a traumatic experience (being dropped on the floor, being in a physical fight with another betta, etc) may display Swim Bladder Disorder symptoms. In these cases, many times there is permanent damage to the swim bladder. Unfortunately this means that there is no real cure for the disorder if it is caused by injury, but you can manage the illness. Often bettas permanent swim bladder problems can live normal, healthy lives if accomodations are made - such as keeping the water level lower than normal to allow for easier access to air, or providing large-leaved plants near the water surface to make a "lounging" spot where launching off for air is more doable for the betta. Swim bladder problems are not painful and are generally not fatal in the case of injury, so these guys have a wonderful prognosis in general.

Birth Defects - This is one of those rare and yet common causes. If you are a betta breeder, it is extremely common to get some fry with congenital swim bladder problems. If you are someone that "collects" bettas from petstores, it would be extremely rare to find a betta whose swim bladder problems are caused by birth defects as usually wholesalers that supply the bettas will destroy fish with birth defects before they ever make it to the store. As in the case of injury, birth defects are really not curable but they can be managed so that the bettas can live normal, happy lives...if less graceful lives than non-damaged bettas.

Bacterial Infections - While I have never personally seen a case of Swim Bladder Disorder caused by a bacterial infection, some fishkeepers that I respect very much have, and so I will list this as a possible cause of swim bladder problems if nothing else seems to fit. I have always heard that swim bladder problems caused by bacterial infections are incredibly difficult to treat, which makes me wonder if they are not caused by something else altogether...just my random musings. If you are convinced your betta's swim bladder problems are caused by bacterial infection (or are sure that none of the other things i've listed above could be causing it), you may want to start treatment with a good broad-spectrum antibiotic such as Kanacyn (Kanamycin sulfate), Spectrogram (Kanamycin sulfate and Nitrofurazone), Tetracycline, or Furan 2 (Nitrofurazone). Again, I have not ever witnessed a bacterial swim bladder infection, so these medications may or may not work and I would exhaust all other possibilities before treating with these medications.

Swim Bladder Disorder Prevention

Almost anyone who keeps bettas will have to deal with a swim bladder problem or two in their betta-keeping career. It is one of the top three betta ailments along with finrot and constipation. That being said, there are a few things you can do to reduce your betta's chances of contracting Swim Bladder Disorder in the future.

Swim Bladder Disorder is almost always caused by overfeeding or constipation. Remember that a betta's stomach is only about as big as his eye, and feed small meals several times a day instead of one large meal. Remember to feed bettas with nutritionally sound foods and don't go overboard on fatty foods such as bloodworms to avoid constipation.

Water quality is extremely important to keeping healthy bettas, tank maintenance is key.

Hi Bloggers/readers!In this post,i would like to continue picture posting on Black Copper Full Mask Vs Black Copper Full Mask female(16/1/2011)Part1. Before i spawn the betta,i prepared the " Love Room" for the pair.Here some of the "Love Room" pictures :

1.5 f tank . I fill the tank with 2/5 of the tank with water that have been kept for one night

I cut the paper cup into half to make a place where my male betta can make bubble nest

I use the vitagen bottle to make a hiding place for the female

Plup!and there goes the male,inside the tank

Male start to swim around the tank,and i kept the male inside the spawning tank for one night.

Day 2 : 18/01/2011 : Put the female inside the spawning tank


Male dancing around the female,while singing a song of Van Halen,Can't Stop Loving You "Oh, I'm so twisted and tied And all I remember Was how hard we tried Only to surrender "

The female is going towards the male betta

OMG! Van Halen song did work to court the female =). The vertical stripes at the female body shows that it is ready to spawn =)


I put a piece of cloth on the tank spawn to make a privacy for the pair.

Frozen Daphnia and oxygen aeration system

Having problem with food supply for you fries?That is the frequent thing that happen to all breeder.Yes of course we have bbs,but sometimes the bbs didn't hatch,we have daphnia but not all local fish store sell it..One of my friend ,and who is also my sifu in betta knowledge had come with an idea. Using frozen daphnia with the bubble aeration. The trick is very simple.Froze the daphnia,from the ice cube cut into few pieces,than throw it in the aquarium full of hungry fries.. But fries wont ignore dead creature... And there's come the bubble aeration job,circulate the frozen daphnia around the aquarium,so daphnia will look like swimming around their eyes. This will attract the fry attention,and they will eat it.Eddy uses this method when the fries are 3 weeks and above.Eddy said " The first time he trys this method only the "taiko" in the aquarium will ate it,but the next 2,3 days,all the fries start to follow the "taiko" eating.Here's some picture that i snaped when i visit Eddy's Betta Lane in Unitem

Herm,where to start,ok,i start with this picture :

Fries were 1 month old.Slow grow rate because unscheduled eating time and inconstant food supply.How ever this spawn crashed 3 weeks before i write this post.Died mysteriously.I think it was the quality of the water was very poor.Well,it's ok,i can try next time.In the other post i will show you my recent betta's that i bought from Brada Ai.(Black Copper Full Mask).Thanks for reading!

Hepi new year all visitors!

sorry coz i didnt update the blog for a long time due to lack of time,bz working. hehe. 1st time working,so alot of thing i need to catch up. So this are some of my updates :

1. From hundreads of fries,now there are 4 only left (age 1 1/2 month) due to lack of attention & lack of food source (picture next week)

2. Both of the parent died,so i'm planning to buy new one.

3. Next will be solid color.

4.Maybe in 2-4 months,i will create one online magazine call "MekoBetta e-Zine".Still under development.

,oraitt! felt very happy...so i put some liquifry 4 drops... then discard the female...

1. 1st time spawning was failed because i remove the female to early,i assumed there was egg in the bubble nest,because i saw black dot between the bubble nest

Hallo peeps! This time Mr Meko want to try spawn his betta's.After having many failure,he attempt to spawn his betta again,and hope his spawn will be at successful rate! Hey Ho lads!

Previous spawn was a failure. Only one manage to get through. That is Red CTPK[f1] vs Red CTPK [f1]. Both have green irid's on their body.

This time Mr Meko will follow Spawn Techniques according to the books/article.Not his way anymore.

This is the list that the fish he want to spawn :

1.Red Dragon Copper[f1][M] Vs Red Copper[f1][f]

2.Black Dragon Copper[f1][m] Vs Black Copper [f1][f]

3.Black Dragon Copper[f1][m] Vs Yellow Dragon [f]

The objectives for spawn 1&2 is to get more dragon scales!and thickening the mask,while the spawn num 3 is just a testing spawn.

I will let them see each other for one week,and until i come back from my college,i supposed they are ready to spawn! yeahaa!

what type of food must i give to my precious fries?

This is the most famous question among new breeders. Even i also had this question 6 months ago.This post will help u to solve the question.I hope so la! hehe =)

So here are some food that i gave to my fries :

1. Liquid fry

There are 2 types of Liquifry , that are :

Liquifry 1 .

"Liquifry No. 1 has been formulated with tiny food particles for small egg laying fry. Liquifry No. 1 will also stimulate infusoria (microscopic natural organisms), which baby fish will eat."

Liquifry 2 . "Has been formulated with larger food particles for live bearing fry. For best results start feeding with Liquifry 2 immediately after the fish are born."

I prefer using Liqiuifry 1,coz from my experience is the best food for my one day fries.

2. Microworm@MW

"Microworm [MW] is one of the easiest live foods to culture and harvest for egg layer fry like betta." - Betta4u.com

This is the second stage food that i give to my fries.It easier to culture.i feed this to Fries age between 1-2 weeks

3. Baby Brine Shrimps @ BBS

Brine shrimp, also known as artemia, are a boon to tropical fish keepers. They can be used as food for fish of all sizes. They can be fed live or frozen and even freeze-dried. Processed brine shrimp can usually be obtained from almost any pet shop. The live shrimp may be a little harder to find, but they are worth it.
Live baby brine shrimp are the best source of food for fry. The eggs are easily hatched in a solution of salt water, then strained through a fine net and fed to the fry.

Ussually i fed this to 2-5 weeks fries

4. Daphnia.

"Daphnia (or Daphnids) are members of a collection of animals that are broadly termed as "water fleas"." -caudata.org

Fries will grow faster if they been fed with this food.but i am too lazy to go to jalan pasar to buy this food.hehe..if i have time i might go and buy this food.

I fed to 3-7 weeks fries.

5. BloodWorms

This is for my big big big fry.ussually i give frozen bw to them,but if i am not lazy,i give live bw to them.Ussually i fed this to 2.5 months - Die.hehe

Cribs Damage !

About 5 minutes before i wrote this post,one shitty things happen to my cribs. A plastic aquarium just fell because of my clumsily.I put the aquarium on another 2 feet glass aquarium and forgot to put the plastic aquarium back to where it belongs. The 2 feet glass aquarium did not support the weight of the plastic aquarium so it crack and boom the the 2 feet glass aquarium crack.Shit! i have to replace another new glass aquarium. Lucky me the plastic aquarium and my betta fish community in that plastic aquarium was ok.

Where and how to start?

When the very 1st time i want to spawn betta's , i had no clue what to do.lucky me, i have my best friend since the primary school audi,to teach me,so here are some tips when do want to spawn the betta's. This article i took from www.bettasocietymalaysia.com.my,written by Ming Han ; Enjoy !

Conditioning the pair.
i usually feed the pair frozen bloodworm as much as they can eat, 2 times a day. This last for at least a week before the Introduction stage. They are allowed to see each other until 3 days before the Introduction stage. This usually stimulates the production of eggs from what i noticed.

edit 08/04/2008: during the conditioning process, remember to add salt into the spawning pair's jars to cure/prevent velvet. most of the time, the main cause of spawns dying within 2 weeks can be attributed to velvet. healthy parent = healthy fry. Not a pinch of salt but a tablespoon of salt per 1/3 gallon (1 mangkuk plastic) of water. (my salt dosage could be wrong coz i usually estimate using my hands by calculating the amount of water-1 scoop, the position of the moon and the humidity of the air)

The hardware.
1. Aquarium/Styrofoam box/plastic box/anything to hold water with. Size is almost immaterial for the betta to spawn. I've got a spawn of 100s in a 2gallon plastic tub. I rather go for the smaller size container for the 1st 2 weeks to facilitate feeding then transfer the fry to a bigger growout tank later.

2. Water plants. Plants are a necessity as it provides hiding place for the female and it also stimulate infusoria growth for the free swimming fry. Those cheap RM1.50 plants usually does the trick.

3. Half-cut styrofoam cup/a big leaf/water lettuce/anything that floats will provide a 'designated' spot for the male to build its nest. I used to use styro-cup but have since moved on to using leaf of a money tree/water lettuce.

4. Aquarium Salt. I don't know why, but i've always used salt in all my spawn tanks. something along the lines of "if it's not broken, don't fix it"

5. Glass chimney/Microwaveable see-thru plastic container (those they sell tau-fu-fah in)/small acrylic aquarium/hopefully you get my drift. This is to protect the female from the male before he builds his nest.

Optionals
6. Ketapang leaves/Atison Betta Spa. You do not want the water to be TOO dark so use sparingly.

7. Water lettuce. Purely for infusoria which are associated with it. It makes a good spot for nest building too.

Using the hardware...My setup...
1. Saturday. Fill aquarium with tap water up to 5 inches high, add plants and let it stand for a few days. (preferably not under direct sunlight.)

Edit (08/01/2008): for my last spawn, i set up the spawn tank 2 weeks in advanced and i noticed that there are more infusorian present. if you're gonna do this, make sure to put net on top to prevent mosquito from laying eggs. i don't want to be blamed if u get fined by the authorities/scolding from your dad/mom/spouse/housemates/etc.

2. Monday morning. Introduction. After the water has aged, put male into the spawn tank and put the female into the glass chimney and put the glass chimney into the spawn tank so that the male can see her. I usually put in ketapang leaf at the same time.
3. Monday night. Release. Check on the bubblenest. If there is a bubblenest, i usually release the female into the tank at this time. (sometimes the female will jump out of the microwaveable container by herself if she's too eager to get down to business.)
4. Tuesday morning. Most of the time, they won't spawn yet, but it's good to check in case they have. If they did, the female will have to be taken out before the day is over. The female might decided to have some caviar for supper if you don't.
5. My job is done as soon as the female had been taken out. best to leave the spawn tank alone till weekend.

The fry would have entered the free swimming stage by sat or sun (assuming the spawning had taken place by wednesday) and feeding will commence now.

Feeding.
Lately i've been buying daphnia in a RM0.50 packet and dump 50% of it into the spawn tank. It usually last me 3 days before i have to go get more. I try my best to make sure they have food in their stomach all the time, they grow a lot faster this way.

What to feed.
1st day - 2nd day : Infusoria/microworms
3rd day - 1st week : Infusoria + bbs/daphnia
2week - 1month : daphnia
1month onwards : daphnia/tubifex/bloodworms

Troubleshooting.
Q. You didn't mention anything about taking out the male. So when to do it?
A. You can take out the male once the fry are free swimming. As for me, i usually leave him in there until i want to spawn him again or until i transfer the fry into a bigger tank, whichever comes first.

Q. My male keeps eating the eggs. What should i do?
A. There are only a few reasons for it to do so. Most of the time, the male only eats the eggs if it's unfertilized. Or you're peeking on them once too often and the male stressed out, therefore, eating all the eggs. If u're unlucky, the male will eat all the eggs, all the time. Cull the male.

Q. The female doesn't want to spawn. She's already in there for more than 4 days!
A. Take her out, condition her for a few days and try again. The female can be choosy at times or she/he is just clueless. If she's a virgin, try spawning her with a experienced male. Same goes to virgin males. If the courtship takes too long, the male might be clueless (same with most human males it seems) on what to do next, pair him with an experienced female. That USUALLY does the trick.

Q. The eggs have hatched (before free swimming stage) but the male doesn't seem to take care of the fry by catching falling fry and blow them up into the the nest.
A. I solved this by spawning them in a 2gallon plastic tub (styrobox would be better) and left them alone, only to check on the eggs at night. My guess is that the male is frightened of you. Leave them alone the next time u spawn.

Q. The bottom of my tank is dirty. Should i clean it?
A. Do not mess with the water before the fry are 2 weeks old. After 2 weeks, you can start doing 30% water change. If you can't stand the dirt (dead daphnia/bbs) which is stuck to the floor, buy a few cleaners (eg. pleco, feeder shrimps, snails) and they will do the job within the day. Pleco's *ayun* is still easier to suck up than dirt.

Q. I just acquired a fantastic pair from a breeder/friend/aquabid/LFS. When is the right time to spawn them?
A. If the pair comes from a home breeder, you can immediately breed them with assumption that the pair has been well taken care of. If you're in doubt, start the conditioning process immediately and breed them within the week. Once, I got a pair from a good friend and bred them the same night i got them.

The now so popular copper color and "mask" characteristic are both developments which were created by crossing Betta splendens to Betta mahachai and/or Betta imbellis. The latter two species naturally have a higher degree of iridescence on the scales to compensate for the murkier waters of their native lands [8].
Outcrossing these species to betta splendens and selective breeding resulted in true breeding hybrid plakat bettas which were called 'copper imbellis'. These fish possessed two new features; (1) metallic scaling and (2) masking.

By selective breeding, the Asian breeders succeeded to develop the copper imbellis into a longfinned line and selectively breeding lead to a heavy and thick metallic/copper color and a masking which was more or less covering the head.
The typical metallic/copper sheen is caused by the crystalline layer. Whereas in classic blue-green the iridophores are all the same size and shape, metallic iridophores are characterized by different shapes and sizes. Because of this the crystaline layer influences the refraction of the light spectrum which could be an explaination for the color changes which sometimes can be observed in metallics.

The copper/metellic color and the "mask" characteristic are distinct traits which both are inherited by intermediate (partial) dominance. Crossing copper to a normal blue (non-metallic) will give metallic blues in the first generation (F1) with a chance of getting copper back in the next generation (F2). The same accounts for the mask characteristic. When a full mask fish (homozygous mask) is paired with a non-masked fish this can lead to heterozygous mask offspring (F1). Keep in mind here that the degree of masking will greatly differ in the offspring, some will show some masking while other don't show it. The next generation (F2) will give you fish with more masking signs or maybe even some full masks. I think selection also plays a great role here.
Still a lot of experimenting can be done with these relavitely new traits. These traits can be combined with other colors like blue, melano, opaque, red, yellow, etc. Both traits influence all other colortypes and the possibilities seem allmost unlimited!

Pastels

Pastels are iridescent bettas (blue, steel blue and green). It is the (C) cambodian or non-red gene that differentiates them from the regular dark body iridescent bettas. Pastels are homozygous for cambodian, which gives them the light flesh coloured body. Most Pastels also carry a little opaque factor to give the iridescent appear more solid. Without the opaque factor, the iridescent color would be translucent in the absence of dark pigment (black or red).

Opaques

Opaques were created by Dr. Gene Lucas. To be correct opaque itself isn't a color but a trait which is characterized by a thick powdery appearance. The opaque (Op) factor is inherited by intermediate (partial) dominance.
Opaque does not necessarily mean white, there are actually three types; steel blue, green and blue (royal blue) opaques. Opaque whites are actually steel blue opaques. Green and blue opaques have a green or blue sheen instead of pure white colour.

The genetic make up of a opaque white is represented by: C bl Si Nr Op [1].
C - The cambodian gene for lack of dark body pigment which causes the light body.
bl - Steel blue pigment which appears silvery-white when on a light background.
Si - The spread of the iridocyte pigment, in this case steel blue over the fish.
Nr - Non-red, causes the inability to produce red pigment.
Op - Opaque, the special gene that cause the powdery appearence of the fish.
Note: It is also possible for opaques to arise as a result of marble genes. In order for that to happen off course the steel iridescence and the opaque factor must be present.

The I.B.C. judging standards define this breed (Opaques) as: Non-Red light bodied fish similiar in appearance to Pastels. However, there are guanine deposits giving a denser milkier appearance and an opacity to the coloration of these fish. These deposits are most visible around the head and eye and continue to accumulate as the betta ages.

Common Illnesses

Part of being a good fish keeper is learning how to recognize unnatural behaviors. If your betta is acting strangely, chances are that there is a problem somewhere in your aquarium. Being able to identify odd behavior is the first step in disease prevention. The following list of abnormal betta behaviors will alert you to a potential problem:

1. Scratching itself on the tank.
2. Normally active but now moving slowly or not at all
3. Floating upside down or swimming sideways
4. Floating to the top or struggling to rise from the gravel
5. A bloated look
6. Refusing to eat
7. Visible damage on it’s fins, eyes or scales
8. Spots or patches that you have never seen before
9. Hanging around all day
10. Fins continuously clamped shut

If you notice any of these problems, check your aquarium conditions immediately.

Common Illnesses

Fungus

Occurrence : Very common
Symptoms : White growths on the body that is fluffy in appearance. These growths can also be found on the fin areas.
Cause : The fungus attacks regions where the mucus or slime coating on the fish has worn off because of damage by parasites or injury. Fungus is generally the Saprolegnia and Achlya species
Treatment : Spot treat with gentian violet or methylene blue; use aquarium fungicide in extreme cases.

Mouth Fungus

Occurrence : Infrequent
Symptoms : Cotton-like growths around the mouth or patchy-white skin
Cause : Usually Saprolegnia species, occurring after other infection has set in.
Treatment : Commercial fungus treatment or methylene blue.

Intestinal Parasites

Occurrence : Infrequent
Symptoms : Worms showing through the vent; emaciation.
Cause : Different varieties of intestinal worms.
Treatment : Standard fungus cure or a prescribed anthelminthic given in the diet. Add 1 table-spoon of aquarium salt for each 5 gallons of water to help with osmoregulation. Change 10 percent of the water daily.

Swim Bladder Disease

Occurrence : Infrequent
Symptoms : Abnormal swimming patterns or loss of balance
Cause : Bacterial infection, physical injury to swim bladder from fighting or during transportation from dealer, poor water quality.
Treatment : Treat with an antibiotic in a clean, shallow tank. Change water frequently.

Fin Rot

Occurrence : Very common.
Symptoms : Inflamed rays; thorn, ragged or disintegrating fins.
Causes : Either poor water quality or fin injury is the main cause of this disease, a highly contagious bacterial infection that can completely erode the finds and tail all the way down to the body. Fin rot is frequently followed by a secondary fungal infection.
Treatment : Spot treat infected areas with gentian violet. Add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt for each 5 gallons of water to help with osmoregulation. Frequent water changes are necessary to help improve your beta’s condition.

Pop Eye

Occurrence : Infrequent.
Symptoms : Inflamed eyes protruding from their sockets. Often the eye will develop a haze that is white in color. Inflamed eye sockets are also common.
Causes : Parasites or poor environmental conditions.
Treatment : The only thing that you can do to help your betta overcome pop eye is to improve the aquarium’s water conditions with frequent changes and add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water to help with osmoregulation. Check water conditions with test kits to ensure that they remain within the correct range.

Velvet

Occurrence : Very common.
Symptoms : A golden-velvet or gray-colored coating on the body or fin areas. Your betta will look like it has been sprinkled with gold dust.
Cause : Oodinium parasite. The adult parasites will attach themselves to your betta and then fall off after period of about one week. These parasites will sink down and begin to multiply. The new parasites are then released into the water and will reinfect the fish in your aquarium. If the parasites cannot find a living host within a period of about three days, they will die.
Treatment : Commercial malachite green remedy. Add 1 table spoon of aquarium salt for each 5 gallons of water.

Occurrence : Very common.
Symptoms : The appearance, on the body or fins, of small white spots that resemble little grains of salt. Fish that are infected with ich will scratch themselves during the advanced stages of this disease.
Cause : Ichthyopthirius parasite. Adult parasites will fall off the host, sink to the bottom of the tank, and multiply. New parasites will be released to find another host.
Treatment : Commercial ich remedies (formalin or malachite green). If the afflicted betta is removed to a quarantine tank, the main aquarium’s water must still be treated to kill of the remaining free-swimming parasites.

Bacterial Septicemia

Occurrence : Infrequent.
Symptoms : Blood streaks appear on the fins and body. Other symptoms include hemorrhages, listlessness and refusal to eat. This disease usually occurs after a fish has been afflicted with fin rot or skin infections.
Cause : Pseudomonas or Streptococcus bacteria.
Treatment: Antibacterial Furan2 or Triple Sulfa. Change the water every 24 hours.

Tuberculosis

Occurrence : Infrequent
Symptoms: Dull-colored body, clamped fins, weight loss, ulcers, and pop eye in some cases.
Causes : Bacterial disease that is highly contagious. WARNING! This disease can be transferred to humans through contact with the infected areas.
Treatment : There is really no effective treatment of this disease and in my opinion is not worth risking your own health in order to try any remedy. Strict care must be used when handling infected animals! Plastic gloves are recommended when removing the infected betta from the aquarium. A betta that has this disease should be euthanized IMMEDIATELY.

Fish Lice

Occurrence : Infrequent
Symptoms : Disk-shaped parasites can be found attached to the skin of the betta. Ulcers can be sighted near the point of parasitic attachment. Bacterial or fungus problems may follow.
Cause : Crustacean parasite. After feeding on the skin, the adult parasite will leave its host and lay gelatin-like capsules full of eggs. Often the eggs will not hatch until the temperature rises, and may stay in the tank for long periods of time.
Treatment : Remove the parasites from the betta with a pair of small tweezers. Dab any wounds using cotton swab that has been dipped in Mercurochrom. Remove water from the tank and sterilize all the things in it. Unfortunately, the only real way to correct this disease problem is to start a new tank.

Gill Parasites

Occurrence : Infrequent.
Symptoms : Labored respiration, scratching, glazed eyes and loss of motor control.
Cause : Flukes (Dactylogyrus).
Treatment : Sterazin

Slime Disease

Occurrence : Very common
Symptoms : A gray coating on the body or fins, scratching, frayed fins and shimmying.
Causes : Costia, Cyclochaeta or Chilodonella parasites
Treatment : Commercial remedy of malachite green and frequent water changes. Short-term formalin and salt baths will help as well.

Dropsy

Occurrence : Very infrequent
Symptoms : Swollen body, protruding scales, bloated eyes
Cause : Organ failure from cancer or poor environmental conditions.
Treatment : Antibacterial should be given through medicated food. Improvement of water quality through water changes will help to clear up this disease. Full recovery from dropsy is rare.

Constipation

Occurrence : Very common
Symptoms : Poor appetite, swollen stomach region, inactivity.
Cause : Incorrect diet, overfeeding
Treatment : Fast your betta for several days. Add 1/2 teaspoon of magnesium per gallon. Change your betta’s diet to live food for several weeks.

Little comment about betta's world nowdays

From my opinion,there still many of people didn't know Betta's. Many if my friends laugh at me when i say i breed Betta's. the question is why do they laugh at me? it is they didn't know the excitement of breeding,i once fall asleep in front of the 2 feet tank aquarium while enjoying the fries eating their food. But many of them who laugh at me before , come and join me in breeding Betta's. Why do they join,after they make as laughing stuffs and teasing around? because they see the excitement and how i enjoyed breeding Betta's.More over, breeding them make me feel relax.Why do i say that? Watch the betta's from fries until they grow old enough to spawn makes me satisfied because i did a great job raising them in good shape.Even my autie bought one fish from me,because on her opinion this fish can really come down her stress when she had problems or stress at her office.

Why ? BECAUSE THIS IS THE MIRACLE OF BETTA'S

Malaysia fighting fish market is quite low, also that the price of the fighting was not stable enough. Not like goldfish, arowana...

As we knew, although fighting fish in Malaysia already how many years, but people still dun understand about fighting fish. They are lack in education about fighting fish. Few question always in their mind...

1. What is Betta?
2. Fighting fish is for fight until die. Fight for money.
3. Fighting fish selling RM1 each, how come yours selling RM100+? Crazy ar?

When we meet this kind of customer, we should not get angry or chasing him away. We should educate them and provide them the real information, let them know what is betta, what are the species and so on. Best is we can show them in real fish or picture to show them, not using past few years picture la.

Not only this, i think malaysia market price to state at average cost first, not so high unless the quality is perfect. Because some of them would like to try but can't affort it. I believe we sold them in average cost so they can buy the pair and spawn themself and experience it.

Market is everywhere, but you need to get it yourself, not waiting they coming. Even on internet you also can sold some fishes, for sure you need to take the picture of the item you want to sell. That is the best way to sold your fishes quickly. Malaysia is bigger than Singapore, so your customer will be at other state like johor, penang and so on. I think if you want sell your fish, put it on every forum for sales, not just 1 - 2 forum. That not enough, also not everyone will be at same forum .

Minggu nih dah 4 ekor ikan lage aku dah menemui moyan2 mereka.termasuk la ikan laga aku jenis crown tail.sedih wooo.3 betina sekor jantan mati.yang best nyer ikan red coper aku dah dapat anak.tapi aku x taw la bape lame leh tahan telur tuh pasal aku susah nak kuar kan ikan betina dari bekas tuh pasal bekas tuh kecil.sedih gak la kalu anak-anak red cooper tuh dah tiada,aku tgk buble nest die pun macam dah tinggal sikit.isk isk.

huhu.Hari nih aku beli lagi 2 eko ikan laga betina.kunun2 nak spawn banyak2 ar pasnih.
Tapi aku nih idak le reti sangat nak spawn2.tapi rase macam best pulak gk banyak ikan laga nih..

Petang tadi baru je aku beli ikan laga betina 2 ekor.Susah gak nak carik ikan laga betin nih.Kene round2 area bangi.Sekor warne biru sekor ag warne merah.Aku beli pasal nak bagi pasangan kat 2 ekor lagi ikan laga jantan aku,kesian pasal takde girlfriend.hihihi.Tapi aku x bape reti sangat nak spwan2 ikan laga nih,banyak aku bace kat betta society tuh.Tapi aku x berapa paham.kene tunggu audi jugak la yang ajar aku.hihi.nanti aku update gambar2 ikan laga aku.hihi.Dengan tempat aku letak ikan laga nih.Kecik jer.X macam tempatmember aku tuh audi.Besar kowt.Best giler.
hihi.Sekarang nih aku asing-asing kan tempat tinggal mereka nih.Yang betina aku baru beli tuh aku letak setempat,yang betina lame ak letak dengan jantan putih,mule2 letak setempat,tapi pasal ikan betina lame tuh macam nak tunjuk senior pulak tuh aku asing tuh.hihi.Yang 2 eko jantan tuh aku asing2. =)

Ikan laga.Satu name yang sinonim dengan ikan yang pantang nampak ikan yang same jenis.Asal nampak je nak gaduh,asal nampak je nak gaduh(jantan dengan jantan je la).Ramai yang x tahu betapa bernilai nye ikan nih kalu kite hargai.Sekarang nih minat aku kat ikan nih dah makin bertambah.Baru semalam aku dapat 4 ekor ikan laga percuma dari member rapat aku ,Audi.
1 betina 3 ekor jantan.Semangat jugak la nak bela.Dulu just bela untuk lawan dengan member.Nak tgk ikan sape lagi hebat.Sekarang,aku berminat nak ternak pulak ikan nih.Kire nak bela dari yang 1st aku dapat nih,sampai bertelur-melur nanti.Semangat gile nih.ikan laga nih pecah dua jenis rupenye,satu yang jenis liar,satu lagi jenis hiasan.Macam dalam hiasan macam jenis betta fish nih,contoh macam :

yang dua atas nih antara rutasan atau mungkin jutaan jenis ikan laga hiasan.Mmg lawa-lawa.Itu yang banyak menarik minat aku tuh.Kat negara kite mungkin ikan laga jenis hiasan nih tidak beigtu mendapat tmpt di hati kebanyakan masyarakat kite,tapi semakin hari semakin ramai orang mempunyai minat untuk nela ikan laga jenis hiasan nih.
